Adobe Abandons Creative Suites in Shift to the Cloud
Say good-bye to Adobe's Creative Suites; the last version Adobe will support is Creative Suite 6. Adobe will continue to release bug fixes for CS6 for the foreseeable future, but has no plans for a CS7 version.
Going forward, Adobe will concentrate on Creative Cloud for its professional design apps, and a monthly or yearly subscription model.
Today at its Adobe MAX 2013 conference the company unveiled the first of the Creative Cloud apps: Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC, Dreamweaver CC, InDesign CC, and Premiere Pro CC. The Creative Cloud apps are expected to be available in June of this year.
Pricing for the Creative Cloud will be $49.99 per month for a subscription to all of the CC apps. You can also subscribe to an individual app for $19.99 per month.
Adobe also announced a promotion for Creative Cloud. If you have a license for CS3 or later, you can subscribe to Creative Cloud for $29.99 for the first year.
Adobe is still selling Creative Suite 6 and has said it will continue to do so for a while; there's no word yet on a firm date after which CS6 will no longer be available.
