Photoshop Tutorial: How to Create Gold Text

There are numerous things you can do in Photoshop. You can edit pictures and even create web graphics. You can also add text. Adding text is a great thing to do if you want to enhance a picture. By putting text on an image, you can create a whole new style and look. Additionally, text can be used to create graphics and logos, ready for posting on the Internet or the World Wide Web.
In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a different style of text, one that can be done in Photoshop. This Photoshop tutorial will show you how to create a gold text. And we'll even add a nice lens flare to give it a nice shine.

So let's begin!

Step 1) Open up a new blank canvas in Photoshop by going to File > New. Select the size to be at 700 x 700. You can also add text to a picture if you like. You can open up your picture by going to File > Open and searching for your picture like you would any document. Or you can also copy and paste a picture off the web by going to File > New > OK. And then going to Edit > Paste.

Step 2) Make the background black by using the Paint Bucket Tool and selecting black on the scrolling color box on the right hand side of the screen.

Step 3) Select the Horizontal Type Tool on the vertical menu bar (shaped like a "T") and click in the upper left hand corner of your black canvas and drag it down to the lower right hand corner.

Step 4) Now click inside the box you just created. Type whatever word or words you want. I typed "Associated Content." You can also type in any font you want. Make the color of the font yellow-gold. Do this by using the scrolling color tool box on the right hand side of the screen, the same way you did the Paint Bucket Tool in step 2.

Step 5) Next, go to Blending Options by going to Layer > Layer Styles > Blending Options.

Step 6) Go to Bevel and Emboss on the left hand side. The following settings should be set: Style: Inner Bevel. Technique: Chisel Hard. Depth: 95%. Direction: Up. Size: 5 px. Soften: 0. Angle: 110 degrees. Altitude: 25 degrees. Gloss Contour: Triangle-shaped. Highlight Mode: screen. Opacity: 70%. Shadow Mode: Multiply. Opacity: 70%.

Step 7) Now that you've achieved the desired gold effect, we're going to add the Lens Flare to make it nice and shiny. First, flatten the image by going to Layer > Flatten Image. After that, go to Filter > Render > Lens Flare. Place the plus sign over the letter where you want the shine to be. I chose the first A in my text.

Then you're done! And you've just created a gold text that can work on web banners, logos, and on top of pictures. Keep experimenting with the Blending Options to get other effects too!
