Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 6 Release Date Rumors and News

Fresh off the release of Photoshop Lightroom 5, we’re starting to track the news and rumors for the Lightroom 6 product launch.  Although it’s too early to pinpoint an exact date, looking at Adobe’s release cycle, we’re pretty sure the next version will be out sometime in the summer of 2014, with a public beta version expected around March 2014.

Lightroom 6 software from Adobe is expected to be announced next summer with the beta expected to come in March 2014.
- Rumored Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 6 Release Date
We based this expected release on when the last versions came out as well as looking at where Adobe is headed with their minor updates. Here’s a timetable of the last versions and when they became available:

Lightroom 5.0 – Released on June10, 2013 (this is the current version).
Lightroom 5.0 beta – Available on April 15, 2013.
Lightroom 4.0 – Released on March 5, 2012.
Lightroom 3.0 – Released on March 23, 2010.
Lightroom 2.0 – Released on July 29, 2008.
Lightroom 1.0 – Released on February 19, 2007.

Adobe has historically been pretty good at honoring customers with a free upgrade if fallen under their grace period. Just keep in mind that this does not apply to beta releases, only for orders made in the period between the official announcement date and shipping date (usually between 2-4 weeks). You can read more about the Adobe free upgrade policy.

It’s too early to tell what’s coming for sure, but the most glaring feature missing from the latest version of Lightroom is the content-aware technology we’ve become accustomed in Photoshop CS6 and in Photoshop CC (Creative Cloud). We also hope that Lightoom will continue being available as a stand-alone perpetual product unlike what we saw happen to Creative Cloud with the entire shift to Creative Cloud.
